Samsung Galaxy Note 7 reviews

Note: On September 2, 2016, Samsung issued a global reminder for the Galaxy Note 7 after dozens of reports of exploding batteries. Then, on October 10, the company permanently abandoned the device after the news that the replacement units were also exploding. Although this review is still alive on the Engadget website for the sake of posterity, we decided to remove the original soundtrack. Needless to say, too, even though note 7 were still sold, we would not be able to recommend it. Summary Among its first-rate screen, powerful performance and an improved Pen S, the Galaxy Note 7 was perhaps the best Android phone money could buy when launched. However, after repeated reports of batteries that explode Samsung issued a reminder. Even after the company shipped replacement units, these devices are also proven to be explosive. Samsung then finally stopped selling the device. The Galaxy Note 7 initially received one of the highest scores Engadget review of history, but for obvious reasons we can not advise anyone to use or even possess one. Samsung has come a long way. When the first Galaxy Note launched in 2011, it felt like an eccentric anachronism - it was not the age of the stylus on? The answer, as the existence of the note-line has proved, is a resounding "no." In fact, somewhere along the way, the note transformed from a curiosity into a premium device that can (and does) blur the Galaxy S line on which it was based. Try this year - $ 850 + Galaxy Note 7 - build off what Samsung has learned to do Galaxy S7 and S7, and you know what? The company liquidated make its best phone still in the process. Each year, Samsung tweaks its design language for the phones of its new Galaxy and applies to any device Note the releases in the same year. It is not surprising then that the 7 note has more in common with the edge Galaxy S7 and S7 of the note last year 5. Since these smartphones share so much, it is not surprising that subtle differences are what makes shine Note 7. Consider its curves. Samsung built the note 7, with a curved symmetrical front and rear; Either the metal body and the glass is curved in the same manner on both sides. As a result, there is more of an advantage to the rest of the thumb, so your hand is less likely to accidentally touch anything on the screen. I could not count the number of times that happened to me with the S7 board, and finally got so annoying that I was giving on the phone everything. Hopefully Samsung will apply this knowledge to the commission next year. The advantage is that these curves make the note 7 really, really nice to hold. This symmetry of design combined with the lightness of the phone and the lack of frames around its 5.7 inch screen means that this is easily the best Galaxy Note to actually carry and use. It 's a great phone that does not feel like one. Samsung also opted for a USB port type C for power and data transfer instead of the micro-USB seen on S7. It was only a matter of time before Samsung made the switch, but I'm just a little surprised to see that the company did not wait until next year. And then there is the storage situation: Note 7 comes with 64 GB of storage, against 32GB on the two American versions of the Galaxy S7. It is a welcome initiative, but perhaps not a surprise, because the Note Series phones have always been featured as more upscale devices.  Partners note 7 of S Pen, it also benefited from several small reflective changes. Now has a smaller, 0.7 mm nib - the same size as a typical ballpoint pen - for more natural writing. You can not attack the S slot in his back, or why Samsung does not need for another year of embarrassment. The downside, however, S Pen this year is slightly thinner than the previous one, which makes it a little less comfortable to grip. Samsung can not please everyone. Some changes, however, are not at all what you call slim. It is a scanner of the iris on the screen to unlock the hands free, and it works better in some situations than in others. If you do not need corrective glasses, well, congratulations: Assuming that align your eyes correctly, note 7 will be unlocked in less than a second. People who wear contact lenses (as I do sometimes) fall into this category as well. If you wear glasses, however, wait for the phone to take much longer ... if it works at all. Now, on these common points. There are, uh, many of them. The most notable is the silicon, running the show, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB of RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU. All three phones also share the same 12 megapixel camera, DualPixel configurations - Is good because this particular sensor is without a doubt the front of the smartphone Camera Pack Android. (The 5-megapixel front camera is the same too, but this is much less interesting.) There is also a place for a microSD card in the SIM tray, just like with the S7, and the phone is also IP68-rated Waterproof, a first for the note line. Meanwhile, I wish Samsung could have transplanted in the note 7 of the S6 board's 3,600mAh battery, but it seems Samsung could only match a 3,500mAh cell in the body curve of the note 7. Fortunately, the difference in longevity Is minimal (as you will see later). As mentioned, note 7 sports 5.7 inch Super AMOLED screen running at 2560 x 1440 (or Quad HD or 2K, or whatever you want to call it). And do not you know, this screen is simply incredible, full of great viewing angles and vivid sumptuous colors that Samsung's AMOLED panels are known for. (If the default color temperature is a little bruise, you can always change the display mode in the settings menu.) Increasing the screen size means that its pixel density per inch (518 pixels) is lower To that of S7 and the display of S7, but in reality, The difference is almost impossible to choose; Texts and photos are made with excellent freshness. It's a summer sample, too: With the brightness bent to the maximum, I had no trouble sifting through the tweets and scary about the potential Instagram filters under the burning August sun. If all this sounds familiar, well, I'm sorry. Samsung screens are usually high end, but the 7 note is particularly nice (especially since the strange pulsating effect that I noticed the last 5 notes is nowhere in sight). As might be expected, the 7 note inherited the S7 mode still on display, and is as convenient as ever. Samsung updated with new designs, however: there are three other designs for the persistent clock and a new image (constellations) that should end up on the company's previous flags in a short period of time. And while we're on the subject of minor additions, there's also a blue-light filter mode that's designed to reduce eye strain and preserve the sacredness of the sleep cycle. These display modes are blooming everywhere, and if indeed help is being discussed, but it is a welcome touch that I write this review in the middle of the night. As usual, however, the quality of the speaker configuration of known delay compared to that of the screen. There is only one grid engraved on the bottom of the phone between the C type door and the concealment of S Pen, and is capable of churning (if a bit dull) audio. Things get better when you connect a pair of headphones, at least: high-quality audio upscaler Samsung adds just a little more grain to the tracks, with options for simulated surround sound, tube amp effects And reverb concert hall. I do not really like these effects the first time shown on S7S, but they grew on me - Spacey, centered vocal songs can benefit a lot from what the wrong surround sound, for example. Still, if you hated these effects the first time, do not expect to change your mind. Like all the other lighthouses that launched this year, the 7 note comes with Android 6.0.1 on board - that means you have the new permissions controls, now achieve closed cards Tap information and all other basic features Marshmallow we have been enjoying for almost a year now. More interesting is how the Samsung TouchWiz approach continues to evolve: What is the habit of being a fat, unpleasant punchline interface has gradually become bearable, and then at the end quite enjoyable. Many of us (including me) will always prefer Android available, but Samsung has spent the last few years to clean up his act, which is worthy of some praise. At first glance, we have not changed much since the S7 / Edge era - Briefing Flipboard lives to the left of your homescreens, and Edge UX Samsung is back. Quick summary If you have not used a Border S7: Sweeping the tab on the right side (default) of the front door window panes with links to your selected applications, contacts and " Tasks "that compose messages and taking selfies. You can strengthen your list with third-party "edges" for Yahoo Sports and Finance, but can not design macro-like tasks we could on a full blown computer. Once it is installed, the Samsung payment card live on the bottom of the screen too - a shot charged up to the payment method, and it is preparing for an NFC or a "blow" operation magnetic. Galaxy Note 7 Tour Software | 54 Photos The differences will become more obvious when you start digging a little deeper, and ask yourself why some of these changes have not been TouchWiz beginning. Pull down the notification shadow, for example, reveals a search bar, brightness slider, and a lack of circular icons - Samsung dropped them for a grid-quick cleaner settings icons.  The application launcher has a high sear search bar as well, making it easier to find the application you are looking for. That beats the awkward looking button on the edge S7 and S7. This simplified approach focuses on the note 7 page settings, where Samsung removed the circular icons and green water mark in favor of a much simpler options list. (Do not worry, the interface is always dotted with blue here and there, in case you are not very good with the change.) And if you hate white frames rounded raking in application icons, you Can disable. One word: Hallelujah. Of course, there is more going here than own clean new look Note 7. Let's say you try to keep Esca habits down - you have the option to download the application directly into the new protected Samsung file, keeping perpetually hidden Prying eyes. But if it is already installed? Easy. You can add the application to the protected folder, and then uninstall the original instance, leaving an independent copy, works perfectly hidden from the rest of the world. You can lock this digital warehouse with a PIN, password, fingerprint or iris scan, but the last two prompts you to set a password in case your biometric signature does not pass the exam . What you use the secure folder is your business, but no matter, Samsung's implementation is both smart and useful. Samsung Browser is also more useful thanks for support extensions, including a QR-code reader and an "Amazon wizard" that aims to "get the instant product matches while you shop on the web." I would be delighted to tell you more about how Amazon removes the barriers between you and your darkest buying impulses, but this extension was not living at the time of writing. Then there are the modes to this day saving energy. In addition to composing at the bottom of the brightness and performance limiting, they will also reduce the screen resolution of the note 7 (against 720p) to save even more juice. Huawei has adopted this trick before, but it is extremely helpful to keep your note 7 alive when the battery level becomes sad. Fortunately, there are not many preloaded applications unnecessary. We have the usual floppy of Google Apps, as well as Samsung's e-mail client, browser, file manager and S health application, as well as any specific hardware for the note I go in a moment. My exam unit is a T-Mobile model, and Legere's crew fortunately, it does not go too crazy with bloatware. Overall, this note version 7 comes with eight pre-installed carrier applications, ranging from the very useful (SlingTV was on-site to follow the Olympics mobile) to the irritating (I can handle my own Well security, guard, but thank you). Strange as it may seem, the 7 note is so well set up and fun to use that it is sometimes easy to forget that there is a hidden stylus inside. S Pen this year does not seem very different from the 5 note, but the changes are there if you look closely enough. As mentioned earlier, the pen is smaller for more than smooth writing and sketching, and the S Pen body is still slightly narrower and lighter. It would not say a change at this time would be obvious, but it is a kind of IS - despite the almost identical size, it feels a little flimsier than what we achieved last year. The S Pen 7 note still has some obvious advantages. For one, it is water resistant, just like the phone itself.  Since the entire package is IP68-rated, you can actually write things on the screen 7 note underwater, although I'm not sure if anyone would ever actually need it. (Getting the phone numbers at the beach, who knows.) Speaking of the screen, note 7 can now recognize up to 4096 levels of sensitivity to pressure, twice as much as note 5 was capable. And "one of these differences is truly perceptible only when you have two sides by lateral devices: light shots that do not mark on display 5 of the notes showed well on the 7 note, making it a Best choice for artists who appreciate precision. If all you are going to do is take notes and reminders, however, you probably will not see much change. While we're talking about the screen I'm glad that one of the best features of note 5 of the above facts to note 7. Removing the Pen S while the screen is turned off, makes a dark interface appear On screen (quite appropriate) memo-off. Here you can draw or leave a note, then the pin for display always on for reference throughout the day. The inherent lack of friction in this process means that anyone who picks up the phone can pin up scribbles on the screen, which in my case led to a lot of early drawings across the screen from my sleep. Thanks guys. Samsung is too aware that the S Pen is not for everyone, so it is cooked a new Air Command must make its stylus the most versatile. My eyes are pretty horrible, it was neat to be able to enlarge anything on the screen up to 300 percent when pinch-to-zoom was not an option. Fresco? Of course. Consistently useful? Huh. You can now translate words from one language to the screen too, although the translations are not as elegant as I would have liked. Here's the thing: The function only allows you to translate one word at a time, rather than sentences or paragraphs. As such, he is on hand to collect pieces of a language you do not know, and the wrong one to play a lot of information. And then there are GIF images. The "Smart Select" function has been updated to allow you to select parts of the screen with the stylus, save them and turn them into GIFs. I do not have high hopes for this process because GIFs do on an ordinary computer is some kind of pain, but it is proven to be surprisingly stylish. Once the recording is complete (you can capture up to 15 seconds), it is fairly simple to scribble on them, change the way the loops and share them all over. Meanwhile, Samsung's frenzy cleaning software continues with S Pen Things: Four distinct S Pen specific applications have been combined into a single Samsung Note (!) Call. This is where you make most of your take notes and scribbles, and it is fully functional; It is pretty good that I do not miss any of the old standalone S Pen applications. All these changes are not in the right direction, but I wonder if they will actually change the mind of S Pen person. The fact that Samsung continues to multiply these devices should mean a lot of people out there digging using a stylus, but if you have not sold it before, you probably will not now. Camera we can keep this brief part: Both of the 7 note cameras are identical to those of the S7 and S7 cards, and are therefore very well damned. The pictures taken during a week were almost evenly lighted, with much detail (really pop on this AMOLED screen) and precise and vibrant colors. E 'fast damn to concentrate too much, thanks to the DualPixel development camera. If you forgive me the very scientific explanation, every 1.4 micron pixels on the 12 megapixel sensor is divided into two photodiodes that are used to measure the distance between the camera and the subject.

Since each pixel is used to put these calculations in the focus, the 7 note is quick to lock on one side of it, even when the subject is a picky, adorable baby celebrates his second birthday. It goes without saying that smartphone cameras tend to suck in the dark but note 7 tariffs and thanks to the pixel sizes on the sensor. It is surprisingly little noise, even in the outside shots at night, and still there exposure control help to reduce the influence of light in more that could otherwise soften the sharpness of a powerful shot . In short, the 7 note is an awesome shooting game in the round, ranking next to S7 and S7 Edge as one of the Android-powered cameras to beat. Meanwhile, the 5 megapixel camera to attack takes respectable selfies with enough verve to please all terminals, but the most vain. I just wish Samsung had damaged the resolution a bit this time. The camera sensors may not have changed, but the camera interface is safe. Remember all modes and settings different icons used to pepper the main view of the camera app? Many of them have been moved out of sight to give you a cleaner interface. All photo mode by S7 - Pro, landscape, selective focus, slow motion, hyperlapse and more - are back and still available by scrolling to the right. Instead of pressing a separate button to change camera, however, you will have to scroll up. The camera resolution options and the timer have been moved to a separate settings menu, while active filter effects can be applied by dragging to the left. Believe me: It is all much more intuitive than it sounds, and the ethos "out of sight, out of mind" here is good for me. After all, almost every picture taken in the whole car looked fantastic. Video shoot was also produced painless and accurate, beautiful pictures no matter what I took resolution. (Fair Warning: Autofocus tracking does not work when 4K video, so be prepared to manage alone) Performance and internal battery life Due to the common, Note 7 performs almost exactly like the S7 and S7 board , Which in turn behave like the rest of the tip of the smartphone pile this year. This means that this note of the year is a smooth operator thanks to the quad-core Snapdragon 820 and 4 GB of RAM. I spent my week multitasking a lot, games like Hearthstone, Asphalt 8, Republic and generally do my best to make 7 stuttering or slowing down. I succeed, but rarely and never for long. If you are concerned about whether note 7 can withstand your hellacious routine, do not be: This thing brings warmth (sometimes literally, but never to the point of discomfort). Again, you were expecting something else? Almost Qualcomm's monopoly on mobile chip company led to a relaxation in which a high-end device more or less behaves like any other. This makes it difficult to write about these things over and over again, but it is still a victory for anyone who reads this - there is almost no such thing as a bad choice, at least as much as performance is concerned. Because their interiors are the same, differentiating factors, such as battery life are more important than ever. Now the 7 note can not have the biggest battery in the Samsung line - this distinction goes to S7 Edge - but it is still one of the best day-to-day interpreters I've used in a while. When it was our standard dilapidated test (looping a high definition video to 50 brightness), the 7 note lasted a little over 14 hours.  It is about half an hour less than the S7 board, a few minutes more than the last note 5, and tied with the Z Force Moto. Not the kind to see the video until your eyes bleed? Agree: I regularly took two days of consistency, mixed use of the note 7. With the help of Android Doze function Marshmallow, my running time stretched almost three days with more sporadic use, although your mileage can vary. The competition goes without saying that if you are looking for a phone you can use with a stylus, you can not do better than the Galaxy Note 7. That said, if you are looking for a phone combination -and-stylus, I find that the Galaxy 5 note still holds very well. It was updated to run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and put on reference figures were surprisingly close to this year's model - a testament to the power of the octa-core Exynos chipset is hiding inside. Unfortunately, it is waterproof and devoid of all storable storage options, but you can easily find a good deal online. The note 7 also addresses the tough competition from its cousins, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge a bit. They have the same brain, after all, not to mention the same waterproof, same screen technology AMOLED punchy and the same global design language. I still think the S7 Edge is too prone to accidental touches, however, a problem that frankly pushes the wall freakin '- I would certainly take note 7 Over the Edge (mainly because they share these centerline features), But the GS7 is an excellent choice for anyone who wants Samsung better in a more compact form factor. Meanwhile, fans of quality high-end construction should consider the HTC 10, a phenomenal smartphone that provides power and style to resell. It also uses the Snapdragon 820 chipset, but the goal of the retail company is what really makes HTC 10 shine - the quality of construction is impeccable, the phone packs a low latency touch screen, and is the first Android phone natively supports Apple AirPlay in standard streaming. Battery and camera 10 are not quite as good as the 7 note, however, so you will love the design of HTC and its software approach. Recap When I saw the edge Galaxy S7 and S7 earlier this year, I was already convinced Samsung was working at the top of his game. After using phones and crafts like these, I did not think it would be possible to 'Love the inevitable follow up more. I was wrong. Note 7 is not a perfect phone: expensive E ', and there is still a compelling reason to buy in the S Pen Life Lifestyle, if you do not already have it. Even though, by combining the updates that entered the S7 brothers with a number of subtle improvements to the Notes design and software, Samsung even built its best phone. The Galaxy Note 7 is not only the best note ever Galaxy - is a serious competitor as the best Android phone you can find right now.
